Christian communities have a long historic record of using the economic resources of its people for the strengthening of the Church. From the Scriptures to the present, those stories often include the mystery of how investing in the Community is a great (and tangible) benefit for all involved. The Iowa United Methodist Church Building Fund Trust was created in that tradition. Investors receive a significantly better than average return on their investment, while providing lower cost loans to Churches for major capital projects. Individuals and churches investing in one, three or five year certificates not only faithfully manage their money, but they directly help in the building of holy spaces for the making of disciples. Churches not only mortgage their projects for lower total costs, but provide economic benefit directly to members of the wider, Iowa United Methodist Community. The Building Fund Trust began in 2001 and is now servicing mortgages to 32 Churches with a total of $6,330,569 invested by individuals and churches of the Iowa United Methodist Church. In these less exuberant economic times, this is a success story. And when the times change, it will continue to be a success story of how United Methodists economically win both ways AND help spread the Gospel.
